2011 75 Years of WSBA and 25 years of the Altona Badminton Centre (Mar 02, 2011)
Thank you to all past and present Committee and Players who were able to attend on Sunday.
We would like to thank "Eddie the Butcher", for a great lunch, and his sponsorship contribution for our day! Eddie can be found at 29 Mason Street, Newport.
It was wonderful to see so many faces from past years, including Max Burnham, who was President from 1966 - 1972, Kath Hindson, who won a Victorian Singles Title in 1960 and John Berry and Peter Daw (who were signatories on the WSBA Building Fund Account, which enabled WSBA to prove we have saved money for the future and enabled Badminton to convince the Altona Council that we were responsible and reliable tenants of the proposed building, it could well have been the Basketball Centre, however Basketball didn't have any money to contribute), Natalie Cronin, who has been a Committee Member since 1984 and is currrently Vice-President and Alan Walsh, who relentlessly lobbied the Council to get our Stadium built!
Part of this informal celebration, included the opportunity to watch our WSBA Junior Squad train, many older WSBA members were amazed at how times had changed, as coaching back in the 30s, 40s and 50s was what the team learned from the older players in that team......
As President, I would like to thank Philip McNally for the wonderful research he did into our History of the last 25 years and the setting up of our "75 Years of Feathers" publication.
I would also like to thank Ron Gray for his commitment over the last 28 years, as a Committee Member, Treasurer and now Manager.
WSBA continues to grow from strength to strength because of the ongoing commitment of many dedicated people.

WSBA Celebrates 75 years (Feb 01, 2011)
Western Suburbs Badminton Association is proud to be celebrating its 75th Birthday and the 25th year of the Altona Badminton Centre.
Footscray Churches Badminton Association was formed in March 1935 and at its Annual Meeting in April 1936, it was resolved to change the name to Footscray & Williamstown District Badminton Association. In 1985, Western Suburbs Badminton Association became incorporated when the Altona Badminton Centre was opened.
Thanks to meticulous record keeping, we have results back to 1935. These results, along with other historical information will be published in a book and available at our Birthday Celebrations.
History shows that our Association was and still is at the forefront of Badminton in Australia, the Umpires Association was born in the West in 1967 and is now known as the Court Officials Committee. We are the largest affiliated Association in Australia and our Junior Development Program is a world first.
Our Junior Development Squad will be training during the morning which will give you the opportunity to see them at work.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, we invite you and other members you may still keep in touch with to join us an at an informal function at the Altona Badminton Centre Paisley Park, Mason Street, Altona North (Melways 55 D3) on Sunday 27th February at 11.00am, to be followed by a light lunch.
An rsvp by the 18th February would be appreciated to assist with catering.

Friday & Sunday Junior Beginner Coaching (Jan 19, 2011)
Our 2011 Friday night Junior Beginner Coaching will commence on Friday 4th February.
6.00pm - 7.00pm Ages 6 - 9 years
7.00pm - 8.00pm Ages 10 and over
The cost is $8.00 per session which covers coaching, shuttles and racquets. Just turn up, no booking required.
2011 Sunday Casual Junior Coaching will commence on Sunday 6th February.
9.30am - 11.30am Ages 6 - 18 and all standards
The cost is $15.00 per session which covers coaching, shuttles and racquets. Just turn up, no booking required.

2011 WSBA Membership (Jan 10, 2011)
Player membership is now due for the calendar year 2011.
Cost is $50.00 for Seniors and $35.00 for Juniors (Under 19 as at 31/12/11).
Players who have been a member at any time over the last 10 years will have a pre-printed form at the pro shop. These players just need to check the accuracy of the form and make relevant changes to update it. Payment can be made by cash, debit card or credit card (Visa/Mastercard).
Membership covers affiliation to Badminton Victoria and personal accident insurance. It also entitles the member to a $2.00 per hour discount from casual court hire. All regular competition players must be registered with WSBA.
The 2011 form is now available on the Pennant Page of our website.

Happy New Year (Jan 03, 2011)
We, the WSBA Staff & Committee, wish you a Happy New Year and we look forward to a great 2011.
Our floor has been resurfaced (it looks wonderful!) and normal hours begin on Tuesday 4th January.
Please continue to check our website for up to date information on all our tournaments.
Our Under 13 Interstate Series will be held on the 14th & 15th January, call in and see the top U13s from NSW and Victoria competing! Many of the Vics are WSBA Squad members, so come and support our young players!
All WSBA Tournaments will be listed on our Tournament page and referenced in a News article.
Our Autumn Pennant will begin at the end of January, if you want to add a team/player, please contact Ron (wsba@bigpond.com ) as soon as possible, as the Grading Meeting will be held in the week commencing Sunday 9th January.

Keilor Road players say Thank You to Gordon Douglas (Dec 12, 2010)
On Monday 6th December, Keilor Road players gathered to say thanks to Gordon Douglas, who recently announced his retirement from the club after 40 years.
George Plumb congratulated Gordon and presented him with a plaque to commemorate those years of commitment and wished him well in his retirement.
