Veterans Association not happy with Rally Point Scoring (May 15, 2013)
Hello Ron - This is to inform the Western Suburbs B.A. that the VBVA Committee are not happy with the advice on your entry form that Rally Points will be used at your 2013 tournament. I have already had 3 associations not happy with your decision to go against the usual accredited Veteran Teams Events format and I advise all associations that it did not come from the VBVA - The last time this was discussed the direction from the association delegates by a great majority was that they did not want Rally Points -
It is disappointing that your association have decided just to go ahead with the decision without having the decency of at least requesting consideration of the alteration from the VBVA Committee.
As the first thing we knew about your decision was when the Entry Form was received this week, the committee will meet to discuss it as soon as possible and advise you of the outcome.

WSBA does not know what the problem is – over twelve months ago at the 2012 AGM, WSBA advised the meeting that the VBVA’s match regulations do not preclude any association playing rally point matches in tournaments.
The committee of the VBVA has not changed the match regulations.
WSBA is running the tournament within the rules and regulations of the VBVA.

WSBA Ladies Fund Raiser for Breast Cancer (May 14, 2013)
WSBA ladies held a fundraising lunch for the Breast Cancer Appeal and raised $260.00 on the day!

WOW, what a Tournament! 160 entries, about the largest WSBA have ever had!

2013 Under 17 Li-Ning Australasian Championships and June Bevan Trophy (Mar 07, 2013)
A call for volunteers. Are YOU able to assist?
WSBA is proud to have been selected to run this prestigious Carnival, with players travelling from New Zealand and New Caledonia, which will be held from Saturday 30th March - Saturday 6th April, with the Team Event being held over the first 4 days, followed by the Individual Events, also over 4 days.
This Carnival is always held over the Easter holidays and WSBA is looking for Volunteers to assist in a variety of ways over this time.

2013 Under 17 Victorian Teams (Feb 05, 2013)
WSBA congratulates Phillip Audley, Calvin Hua-Ching, Lily Rigg and Ernest Yam, who have been selected in the Victoria 2 Team to compete in the Under 17 Li-Ning June Bevan Trophy, which will be held at the Altona Badminton Centre over Easter.

2013 Altona Junior Open Under 11, 15 & 19 (Feb 05, 2013)
The 2013 Altona Junior Open U11/15/19/to be held on the 2nd & 3rd March, will be an U15/19 tournament , offering players the opportunity to demonstrate to the Selectors their commitment and dedication in offering themselves for selection in Doubles and Mixed Doubles.
In 2013, all under age carnivals will use the tournament software ranking system to determine seeds in all disciplines. WSBA will also offer an U15/19 Singles event, which can be used to build players ranking points in Singles. This will be played on the Saturday afternoon, the 2nd March.

Vale Alan Walsh (Jan 29, 2013)
Alan Gordon Walsh
Alan became Vice President of the Association in 1982 and was the President from 1983 until 1988, during which time he and his Committee negotiated with the Altona City Council and were successful in obtaining the lease of the Altona Badminton Centre exclusively for Badminton. This involved Alan attending the regular fortnightly council meetings for some years prior to the approval of the badminton centre. Alan played with West Newport and Westgate Uniting Church clubs for many years.
Since leaving the Committee, Alan has been a regular visitor and supporter of the Association and will be sorely missed. Our thoughts are with Joy, their children and grandchildren at this time.
