We have a new venue operating from 7pm-10pm on a Monday night. Three courts at Williamstown High School Gymnasium in Bayview Street, Williamstown. These courts will be used for Pennant Competition Matches. Melways Map Ref. 55 K10

2010 AMES Programme (Aug 22, 2010)
WSBA received some funding to support new arrivals playing badminton. They came to Altona Badminton Centre over a four week period to play for an hour under WSBA coach Pauline Martin. AMES (Adult Multicultural Educational Services) provides services to new arrivals in English and employment services and in association with the Western Bulldogs provide access to different sports.
This is the second time we have had a group of around 50 new young Australians through this programme and in terms of numbers, badminton is the most popular sport run by the group. The last day was a mini tournament with trophies donated by WSBA and Western Bulldogs.

WSBA congratulates Shaun Matthews, who has been selected to represent Victoria in the Number 1 Team and Rudy Rigg, who has been selected to represent Victoria in the Number 2 Team, at the upcoming Australian Under 15 Carnival, incorporating the Val Nesbitt Trophy, which will be held in Shepparton at the end of September.

2010 Australian Closed Championships (Aug 07, 2010)
These championships have just been completed.
WSBA congratulates Nicholas Kidd and Leisha Cooper on their wins in the Mens & Womens Singles.
Nick (WA) has also been selected to represent Australia in Singles at the Commonwealth Games in India, along with Jeff Tho, from Victoria. The Australian Team can be found via this link, the Badminton Victoria website http://www.badmintonvic.com.au/

Spring Season Fixture v3 (Jul 27, 2010)
The Spring Season Fixture is now on the Pennant page. Please download and read carefully for each week's venue.
2010 Under 15 State Titles (Jul 25, 2010)
This is a ONE DAY tournament. Next Sunday 1st August. Parents will be required to assist during the tournament.
MSAC will be open at 8.40am for registration and warm up.
Please bring a photocopy of your proof of birth (If you have not already given VJB a copy) Hand in at the registration table at the front of the stadium. Also payment if not already paid.
Mixed doubles will be played at 9am starting with the following games. Players, please register at front desk and then go to your court with your line judge (parent or player) ready to start at 9am sharp.
Umpires please register at the front desk and then go to the control desk at the back of the stadium to get instructions etc.

2010 Spring Season Pennant (Jul 09, 2010)
WSBA's Spring Season commences this Monday, 12th July.
We have one extra team in C3 and unfortunately a team has withdrawn from B1 and B2.
The Fixture can be found on the Pennant page and the scoresheets for all grades can be downloaded in Excel from the Pennant/ Pennant Comp. Forms page.

I have attached a copy of the Melways Map 55 K10, showing the Williamstown High School venue in Bayview Street Williamstown.
Please note that there are two campuses for Williamstown High – please ensure players go to Bayview Street.
Matches at Williamstown High will have a share court – please ask all players to get to venue at 7:30pm so that all matches can start on time.
Each week the stadium will be prepared by Dan Nguyen who is employed by the Western Suburbs Badminton Association. He will put up nets, sweep courts if necessary, collect money ($29.00 per team), sell shuttles, provide scoresheets and have a small range of drinks/chips/chocolates for sale. He will also pack up nets and posts after the matches.
The school is located in a residential area, so we ask you to pass on to players our commitment to the school that we will endeavour to come and go in a quiet and responsible manner.
A reminder to B2 players – with the change of format to the 6 player teams, matches will be the best of three games to 15. If the score reaches 14 All, a team must win by 2 points. If the score reaches 20 All, the team winning the 21st point is the game winner.

2010 Swan Hill Veterans (Jun 27, 2010)
The WSBA Sharks played in a combined A/B grade due to lack of team numbers in the higher grades. The team won all their matches against the other B grade teams and drew on games against the runner-up in the A Grade team. A great weekend was had by all - thanks to Dorothy for all her work in organising the team.

The teams will be managed by Pauline and Liz Martin, WSBA thanks them for their volunteer commitment to Badminton in Victoria. Jen Kang, another WSBA Coach will coach Victoria 2.

Badminton Victoria's Awards Night (Apr 17, 2010)
Badminton Victoria recently held its annual Awards Night at Kooringal Golf Club in Altona.
WSBA is the 2009 Association of the Year, Michelle Rigg is the 2009 Coach of the Year and Karen Audley is the 2009 Volunteer of the Year.
Congratulations to all!
Badminton Australia also presented Pat Daw and Dianne Carter with an Award of Merit for services to Badminton.

2010 Under 17 Australasian Carnival, incorporating the June Bevan Trophy (Apr 17, 2010)
WSBA congratulates Victoria 1 on their win in the June Bevan Trophy.
Victoria 2 was in the playoff for 3/4 and of the five games Vic 2 won, our WSBA Junior Squad members James, Eric and Jen were in four of those winning combinations, a great effort!
We also congratulate Eric, who was the Runner Up in the Plate Singles.
What a wonderful performance from our players who were under the guidance of Pauline & Liz Martin, the Coach and Manager of Vic 2.

What a great three days of badminton!
Special thanks to Ron & Pat as Tournament Directors, Peter Griffin and Sandra David as our Referees and the umpires and line judges for their time and expertise. A special mention to Dave and Maurice who umpired many matches in our Graded events on Saturday and Sunday.

Vale Les Crofts (Apr 12, 2010)
Les Crofts, who, as the Mayor of the City of Altona, officially opened the Altona Badminton Centre in 1985, has passed away.
The WSBA Staff and Committee send condolences to June and Family on their loss.
Les and June were great supporters of badminton and donated the silver cup for the Open Men's Singles.

A Grade will commence at 8.45am on Saturday with Mixed, followed by Singles (the singles should start at approximately 11.00am) and Doubles.
On Sunday, all B & C Grade matches will commence at 8.45am.
B Grade will commence with Singles, followed by Doubles (commencing at approximately 11.30am) and Mixed.

What a great day of badminton, over 300 matches!
Congratulations to Tara Pilven on winning the three U19 events.
Thanks to our Referee, Kay Coady, Official Umpires, David, Fred, Karen, Maurice and Sandra, kiosk staff Alex and Ann-Louise, all parents, players and friends who assisted with umpiring during the day.

Play will commence at 9.00am on Sunday for all age groups. Players are asked to check in at least 15 minutes prior to the start of play.
Under 11's will start with Boy's and Girl's Doubles

Parents and Players are reminded that the only separation applied is for the seeds.
Players are reminded to bring a line judge to each match, Coaches are reminded that they may only coach from the chair in the middle of the base line. Players, parents, coaches and friends are reminded that only the umpire or line judge may call a line. If the shuttle landing is not seen, the point will be replayed.

The rules and regulations have been updated (6.2) to properly reflect the doubles pairings.
The Regional Teams Draw has been scheduled in 5 rounds, we know managers and coaches will be very busy, however we believe this is the teams event we want to happen at U13 level.
The latest newsletter will show you the Draw.
We would like all Round 1 team sheets to be sent to Ron as soon as possible, to enable the printing of all the necessary sheets.
